4 Tuesday: The Storytelling Institute, a free seven-week course presented by the Storytellers of San Diego, is open to anyone who would like to hone their skills in the ancient art form of storytelling. The institute culminates in an optional storytelling slot for each participant at the San Diego Storytelling Festival at the Coronado Public Library on March 15, 2025. The Feb. 4 session is walk-in; no registration is required. The class is titled “Building the world with details: Painting the picture” with Emily Stamets.
5 Wednesday: A session of “Poetry for the People,” a 10-part course, will take place at 11 a.m. in the Winn Room of the Public Library.
The course features poems by winners of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry since 1997. First presented in 1922, the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry is given for a distinguished volume of original verse by an American author, published during the preceding calendar year. All class members are encouraged to contribute their ideas and perceptions of the poems, enriching the discussions for everyone in attendance. Attend one class or the entire series. 5 Wednesday:Â Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents Film Forum Coronado, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room.Â
Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. The film presented on Feb. 5 will be “Past Lives.”
8 Saturday: The annual Rady Children’s Charity Ball will take place at the Hotel del Coronado at 6 p.m. on Feb. 8.
