2 Tuesday: From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Winn Room of the Coronado Public Library, the San Diego Blood Bank will be holding a blood drive.
Why donate blood? Someone needs blood every two seconds and 4.5 million Americans need a blood transfusion every year. The need for blood is especially high for cancer treatments, those who have undergone surgery, those with chronic illnesses, and those who have experienced traumatic injuries. Visit SanDiegoBloodBank.org/donate or call (619) 400-8251 for more information.
3 Wednesday: The Coronado Public Library and the Coronado Island Film Festival present Film Forum Coronado with film expert Ralph DeLauro. The film forum will take place on the library’s Winn Room on the first and third Wednesday evenings of each month, at 6 p.m.
DeLauro will provide a brief introduction to each film before leading a discussion about the importance of lighting and camera angles. The film presented on April 3, “Fantastic Planet (La Planete Sauvage),” is a 1972 surrealistic classic film set on a planet where humanoids are trapped as pets by giant blue aliens. The film is a politically charged fever dream of oppressed humanoids, struggling to resist their oppressors and reclaim their freedom.
