I first met Rebecca King during Coronado Unified School District’s Portrait of a Graduate planning sessions. I was fortunate to be placed in a group with her, which gave me the opportunity to really get to know her. We spent hours discussing what we value for our students, our educators, and our community. We talked about our experiences, what matters most, and what we hope for the future of our children.

What struck me about Rebecca was not only how incredibly intelligent and thoughtful she is, but how genuinely kind, curious, and fun she is to be around. As an attorney, she brings a sharp analytical mind and an understanding of the complexities of the systems in which we live. She knows how to ask the right questions, consider different perspectives, and recognize that even the most complicated issues deserve thoughtful consideration. But what I appreciate most is that her intelligence is matched by her warmth and willingness to listen. These are exactly the qualities I want in someone representing our community.

Rebecca is also a proud Navy wife and mother. She speaks with such pride about her husband’s service and understands the important role the Navy plays in our Coronado community. She first came to Coronado in 2007 when the Navy stationed her husband here, and her family returned permanently in 2018 following his retirement. While her son was a student at the Coronado School of the Arts, she generously gave her time and energy to support the program.

Having grown up in West Virginia and lived in different communities, Rebecca brings a perspective that I find especially valuable. She understands what makes Coronado special while also recognizing that there is much we can learn from other places. I believe that balance of honoring what works while remaining open to new ideas is important for our city’s future.

I know Rebecca will do her homework, listen carefully, and make thoughtful, informed decisions. I encourage you to attend a candidate forum, talk with her if she knocks on your door, or take a few minutes to read what she has to say. I think you’ll be as impressed with her as I am.
