Coronado resident Tracy Tempest was recognized by Assemblymember Tasha Boerner for an environmental hero award on Oct. 11.

As a community scientist, Tempest was honored for her efforts with endangered East Pacific green sea turtles.

“She collects data to emphasize the importance of protecting their foraging area in the San Diego Bay Wildlife Refuge and often collaborates with the marine turtle scientists of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Southwest Fisheries Science Center, fostering a brighter future for these animals,” said Boerner.
