15 Wednesday: The Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents Film Forum Coronado, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room. 

Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. The featured film on Oct. 15 is “Mirage.”

16 Thursday: The Coronado Public Library and the San Diego Writers Festival will host a series of writing workshops this fall. Each focused on a different topic, writers both new and experienced will find new strategies to hone their craft.

This month’s course, on Oct. 16 via zoom, will dive into the hero’s journey with Holly Kammier. Register for the course at coronado.librarycalendar.com.

Writers who attend a workshop will have the opportunity to have the entry fee waived if they choose to participate in Acorn Publishing Debut Author contest.

18 Saturday: From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Ruby Room of the Coronado Public Library, instructor Laurie Nasica will lead an art class for kids ages 5 through 12. Nasica is an experienced children’s art teacher who teaches at La Jolla Elementary School as well as the Kalabash School of Music and the Arts. 

19 Sunday: The Coronado Ferry Landing is slated to host a free weekend concert featuring “The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra” from 1 to 4 p.m.
