The Crown City Classic, a patriotic 4th of July race, will kick off the Independence Day festivities bright and early with a 12K, 5K and half-mile race.
The event will begin at 7 a.m., with the 12K and 5K races taking off at Tidelands Park along Glorietta Boulevard. Runners can take in the view of downtown San Diego and the Coronado Bridge before crossing the finish line back at Tidelands Park.
At 8:30, the kids half-mile run will begin, with young athletes completing the course within the park.
Medals will be awarded to top three male and female finishers in each age group, and all participants will receive a t-shirt, finisher medal and chip-timed results.
“The race is a symbol of patriotism for runners, a chance for all to come together and celebrate America while also supporting the Coronado community,” said Jamie Monroe, the Crown City Classic race director. “It’s a great day that combines athleticism and patriotism into an opportunity to do good.”
The race, which is organized by Easy Day Sports, will support the Islander Sports Foundation whose mission is to ensure no Coronado student is denied the chance to participate in sports due to financial barriers.
According to the Easy Day Sports, the Crown City Classic raises over $20,000 each year, directly benefiting youth sports programs and helping cover expenses such as uniforms, referees, coaches and tournament fees.
