In her emotional post from Tuesday the wife of Prince Harry wrote, in part, “I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too. Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”

How absolutely heart wrenching!

Markle also sadly told fans, “Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too.”

Guy originally came from a kill shelter in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. People Magazine explains that volunteers transported him to Ontario, Canada’s A Dog’s Dream Rescue in 2015, and shortly after his arrival, Meghan emailed the rescue center after finding its page on Petfinder. She thought a beagle — a breed known for being energetic, kind and gentle — would be a good match for her, and Dolores Doherty, the founder and owner of A Dog’s Dream Rescue, agreed, emailing Meghan an adoption application to fill out. She returned the completed application just 10 minutes later.

He lived with the Duchess and her family until he sadly passed. We are so terribly sorry for their loss.

How to honor your fur baby

Losing a dog is one of the most heartbreaking experiences a pet owner can ever have, and there are many ways you can commemorate the life your precious pup lived and all the joy and love they brought you.

Certain parks have a rainbow bridge where dog owners can place the collar or tags of a dog that has passed. This is a lovely way you can remember your pup and pay homage to all the other beloved dogs who have passed.

You can plant a memorial garden in your yard and place a stone or path marker with your pups name on it.

You can create a memory book filled with beautiful photos of your dog.

You can light a candle in your dog’s honor on their birthday, holidays, or whenever it brings you comfort.

You can adopt or foster a dog in honor or your pet, or make a donation in their name to your local animal shelter or Humane Society. Giving back to pets-in-need in your own community is such a meaningful and wonderful way to honor your pet that has passed.

Our hearts go out to everyone who is mourning the loss of their precious dog.
