With e-bikes being a popular mode of transportation in the summer, the City of Coronado released a refresher on the safety regulations in a July 25 update from the city manager.
All e-bikes and other motorized mobility devices – such as electric scooters, skateboards and hoverboards – are prohibited from riding on:
- All city sidewalks, beaches and parks.
- The Paseo boardwalk near the Hotel del Coronado.
- The boardwalk near the Coronado Shores.
- The promenade between Glorietta Bay Park and the Bluewater Boathouse Grill.
Mobility devices for persons with disabilities are still permitted in these locations and additionally, riders may walk their mobility devices in these areas.
Any rider under the age of 12 is prohibited from operating e-bikes in Coronado. Fines up to $25 may be imposed.
Anyone under the age of 18 must wear a helmet when operating an e-bike, and motorized mobility devices must follow all Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) regulations and laws pertaining to their device.
