Three of the four Coronado City Council candidates have received support for their campaigns in the Nov. 3 election from current City Council members.

As the Nov. 3 Election Day approaches, candidates had to file their last campaign finance reports on Oct. 22 with the city clerk.

Four candidates are competing for two open City Council seats. Incumbent Kelly Purvis is seeking reelection, while Council member Carrie Anne Downey opted not to run.

Purvis received contributions from Mayor John Duncan and Council members Mark Fleming and Amy Steward. She also got support from current Coronado school board member Fitzhugh Lee.

Ricky Hoyt, a Navy reserve pilot, got support from Duncan, Fleming and from Lee, and from school board candidate Kaye Schneider.

Attorney Rebecca King received contributions from Downey.

Andrew Gade, a business owner, was the only candidate to not get financial support from current City Council members.

Purvis received around $20,500 in contributions and spent just under $14,000 during her run. She was endorsed by the Lincoln Club Business League Political Action Committee (PAC), a Republican club based in Imperial Beach that supported former Coronado Mayor Richard Bailey in the past.

The Lincoln Club also backed Hoyt, whose campaign brought in $12,500 in total contributions and spent just under $13,000 on the race.

King raised $22,300 and spent $15,000 on her City Council campaign. While the Lincoln Club actively opposed her, she drew significant support from Patriots for Prosperity PAC, which poured more than $6,000 into her race.

Patriots for Prosperity PAC is a client of Sunrise Political Solutions, a treasury  management firm that supports progressive campaigns.

The PAC also supported Alexia Palacios-Peters and Malachy Sandie for school board this year and opposed Kaye Schneider.

Gade raised and spent just under $2,000 on his campaign. Although he announced on social media in early September that former Mayor Casey Tanaka endorsed his City Council run, campaign filings show no monetary contributions from Tanaka.
