In a news briefing posted on Facebook, the Police Department reported that a 15-year-old student was detained at a nearby park and taken to juvenile hall on suspicion of making a criminal threat on Nov. 21. No weapon was found, according to police.
At 3:17 p.m. the department announced that the lockdown was lifted.Â
After detainment, at approximately 2:25 p.m., both Coronado Middle School and Village schools lifted their lockdown restrictions. The high school remained in lockdown until a sweep of the campus was completed by law enforcement. All lockdown measures were lifted at 3:15 p.m.
“The safety of all CUSD students and staff is our highest priority,” Palacios-Peters said at the school board meeting later that afternoon. “Today’s incident highlights the importance of ‘see something, say something’ and we commend the students that quickly notified administrators to share their concerns. We are also grateful to our staff and law enforcement for their quick action.”
The district encourages families to discuss the events of the day, while reiterating the importance of being vigilant and adhering to emergency lockdown procedures.
Additionally, counselors at all Coronado Unified schools are available should students wish to discuss their feelings or concerns.
