4 Friday: The autumn concert series continues with a performance by Steve Torok, who has performed with Stevie Wonder, Usher, The Temptations, Adam Levine, Jamey Johnson, Four Tops, Sheila E, Barry Manilow, O’Jays, Whispers, Mary Wilson, Brian Bromberg, Pete Escovedo, Taj Mahal, Toni Tennille, Tony Orlando, and Bob Florence, among others.
His saxophone playing and arrangements have been featured on numerous national recordings, including the hit TV shows The Voice and American Idol.
The performance starts at 1 p.m and doors to the Winn Room at the Coronado Public Library will open 15 minutes prior to the performance.
10 Thursday: Cindy Wilson will be the featured speaker at this week’s Optimist Club of Coronado meeting. Meetings take place at 7 a.m. at the Coronado Community Center and anyone who would like to learn more about the club can attend.
10 Thursday: The library hosts open chess play on the second Thursday of every month between 3 and 5 p.m. in the Winn Room. Enjoy playing chess with others, or learn to play or improve your game with help from facilitator and local chess coach Chuck McClung. Chess boards and pieces provided. Open to all adults age 18 and older.
McClung is a lifelong chess enthusiast and played in his first chess tournament over 40 years ago. He works as a consultant for the Mountain Lake Chess Camp, the oldest chess-teaching company in San Diego. Chuck is also the current Category C World Champion on the website chessworld.net.
