18 Wednesday: The Coronado Democratic Club invites the public to the City Council Candidate Forum on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Coronado Unified School District Office Board Room, 201 Sixth Street.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for early arrival and question submissions. This forum will offer an in-depth look at the candidates running for City Council, moderated by our Public Policy Committee.

18 Wednesday: Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents Film Forum Coronado, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. On Sept. 18, “The Intruder” will be shown.
19 Thursday: Optimist Club meetings take place at 7 a.m. at the Coronado Community Center. Anyone who would like to learn more is welcome to attend a weekly meeting. On Sept. 19, school board candidates will be speaking.
19 Thursday: At 9:15 a.m., the Republican Women’s Club will host a meeting in the lecture room at the Coronado Historical Association, 1100 Orange Avenue. Important volunteer strategies for the upcoming November election will be discussed. In addition, California propositions that will appear on the ballots will be explained. All Republican women are invited to attend. Men are also welcome and encouraged to become associate members. Independent and undecided voters are also welcome.
21 Saturday: At its next concert on Sept. 21, the Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Osvaldo Mendoza will immerse its audience in an enchanting evening of classical Spanish music ranging from La boda de Luis Alonso, Bizet’s Carmen Suite No.1, El Amor Brujo to Concierto de Aranjuez, perhaps the most difficult and intricate piece for classical guitar on the planet. The concert will take place at the Coronado Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.
