Bright and early on July 4, runners participated in the Crown City Classic 12K and 5K along Coronado Bay.
Jess McClain, who finished fourth at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in February, won third place overall for the 12K event—first place for the women’s division. Last year, McClain competed in the Crown City Classic as well and finished first place overall, finishing above all of the men and women.
A few days before the Independence Day race on June 29, McClain competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials for the track and field 10,000-meter race. She will be the first alternate for both the marathon and 10,000-meter events in this summer’s Paris Olympics.
The first place finisher for the 2024 Crown City Classic was Julian Diehr, followed by Patrick Hutton and then McClain. Tim Hendricks got first place in the 5K event.
