At Sacred Heart Parish School in Coronado, the month of July is dedicated a summer camp for children ages 4-10, and this year, the camp celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Erika Rosas, the principal of Sacred Heart Parish School for the upcoming school year, started the summer camp a decade ago with her sister, Nahomi Rosas, who is a school psychologist.
Erika Rosas said they started the camp in July 2014 as more of a summer school and at the time, 22 students attended. Over the years, it turned into a summer camp with activities like cooking, art, martial arts, sports and dance.
This year, around 100 kids attended the camp that ran from July 8-25.
“Running a successful camp can be deeply rewarding personally, seeing the positive impact on children and families,” Rosas said. “Leading our summer camp at Sacred Heart Parish School for the past 10 years has led to a great sense of community engagement, since the camp strengthens community bonds as families and children from diverse backgrounds come together.”
Next year’s 2025 camp will run from July 7-24.
