Cats and birds are notorious for not getting along. Curiosity may get the best of any cat while birds would faster fly away than take their chances interacting with a cat. But for one blind kitty named Sooty, they live in harmony.

A June 24, 2024 TikTok video shared by @basicfakegoth shows how Sooty silently appreciates the sound of birds around him without the slightest interest in trying to get them. Prepare to be inspired by this precious video!

In the video captioned, “the most precious boy to ever live,” we meet sweet Sooty as he finds inner peace sitting on the house’s sidewalk while a colony of pigeons gather above on the roof. Some of the birds flutter around the feline, eating and flapping their wings along with the sounds of nature, but all of them are having a great time enjoying the scenery of Sooty below.

The video has garnered more than 272k likes and hundreds of comments from people showing love to the sweetest boy who enjoys his little winged friends.

“I love Sooty he’s so precious protect him at all cost and give him all the loving and goodies,” one person said. “I have no idea why but this has just made me sob,” another shared. “Blind cats steal my heart every time,” another added. “They deserve the world.”

Sooty may never get to enjoy the tried-and-true game of bird watching, but he sure seems to enjoy his bird listening—and the birds happily oblige. It’s a long-distance friendship for the ages we can get on board with!

Can cats and birds live peacefully together?

Cats and birds have historically been known as enemies. Thanks to cat’s curious nature and bird’s ability to fly away (aka antagonize!), there’s a reason you don’t typically see the two animals co-existing in the same house. But that doesn’t mean it can’t happen.

According to Catster, cats and birds can live together with a little planning. Because you can’t fight instincts, supervision is necessary. And it’s advisable they stay in separate rooms and are never introduced. The bird should be enclosed in something spacious and secure where the cat can’t get to it for its safety. They should also both get adequate one-on-one attention so jealously doesn’t occur.

Cats and birds may never get along and not all cats will allow birds to gather around them the way Sooty does. That said, be sure take every precaution to keep everyone safe.
