While it can be very hard to imagine not loving any animal wholeheartedly, unfortunately, not all creatures are lucky enough to have that in their lives. Some animals, through no fault of their own, get a really rough start to life, and the best thing that we animal lovers can do to is to help at any opportunity we get. Sometimes that means donations, sometimes that means volunteering our time, and sometimes, that even means rescuing an animal when we are able.
One woman took that mission seriously and has adopted a horse to give him a better life. And just from this TikTok video alone, it seems like she has really managed to accomplish her mission.

On Tuesday, April 16, @bonnieandfive shared this sweet update on her rescue horse, Five, now that she’s adjusting to life in her new forever home. Five is a former race horse who was mistreated, but is now enjoying all the good things in life that she never got to experience before.
Five’s new mom wrote that her horse likely would have been slaughtered if she wasn’t rescued, but instead, she’s back in the fields and having a beautiful life. We get to see clips of her doing all the things she wasn’t able to, like getting the chance to roll around in the mud and play like all horses should be able to do!
Heartbreakingly, some of the things that are new to Five are just the bare minimum of caring for an animal, like having enough food to eat. This poor, sweet baby.
“[She’s] being looked after because she’s loved, not because she needs to make money,” she wrote.

The story of Five
Five’s mom, who is an equestrian and isn’t new to caring for horses, has been sharing the story of her adoption on TikTok, and it’s a rather sweet one. Her mom, Belle, was on a trip to Malta where she visited a horse rescue when they met, and she decided to adopt her to save her from the unfortunate conditions she was being kept in now that she could no longer race.
She made the journey from Malta to her new home in Scotland in February, where she’s been getting used to the good life.
“She has retired from racing but at only seven years old she still has a ridden life ahead of her,” Belle wrote in a comment to one of her followers. “Most of the horses who come over to the UK from the rescue are still able to be ridden.”
It seems like Five has plenty of life ahead of her… and a loving mama who will make sure she has everything she needs. What a happy ending!
