As a dog parent, I’m always trying to find new ways to keep my pup entertained. Whether it’s puzzle toys or a game of tag, it’s always a good idea to find ways for dogs to get some energy out whether it be physical or mental. One game that’s an all-time classic is the age-old hide and seek.

This game isn’t just for kids, you can also play it with your four-legged friend. However, as for one funny Golden Retriever, it looks like she’s still trying to get the hang of it.

@figgyandrosemaryThis kills me every time. If she gets down low she thinks you can’t see her. 😂😂😂 #figgythegolden #goldenpuppy #goldenretriever #goldenretrievers #hideandseek #puppylife

It seems like Figgy thinks she has the best hiding place even though it’s very clear her pet parents have no problem during the finding part of the game.

Despite her best attempt, Figgy looks like she needs some more help with this classic game. If you’re wondering what kind of games you can do with your dog inside on a cold or blistering day, a good old-fashioned game of hide and seek is always a good idea.

How to play hide and seek with your dog

Here is how you can teach your dog to play a fun game of hide and seek. First, take your pup to a room and have them stay there, then back away slowly making sure they stay in the same spot. Next, have your dog with their back against the wall or furniture, then walk away so they can’t see you.

You might need to keep practicing this step several times until your dog gets the hang of it. When you think they’re ready, now it’s time for you to hide. Once you find your spot, yell out their name and tell them to come and find you.

It’s important to remember that when you’re first starting, don’t make it too hard on them. With time, you can make the game more and more challenging. If they seem to be having a tough time, don’t be afraid to use treats as a way to help them locate you.

Tip: If they are still struggling to find your hiding place, hold a handful of kibble or treats so your dog’s sense of smell can find you.

Once your dog locates you, reward them with praise and pets! Later on, you can include another person. Your pup must know the other hider’s name and be familiar with them.

Play the game as long as your dog and you and the other person want to play. Make the hiding places more and more challenging. For an extra challenge, try to switch things up by having your pup hide!
