Dogs will be dogs, and one hilariously stubborn Bernese Mountain Dog named Ivy is proving just that in a recent video shared on TikTok.
Despite the freezing temperature (12 degrees Fahrenheit!) and falling snow, Ivy clearly doesn’t seem to understand any reason behind having to head back inside. In fact, she just thinks it’s playtime, and it has everyone cracking up.

I love when she gets in her downward dog battle stance and starts chomping on the snow. Too funny! I also love how her dad strongly declares, “I’m not going to chase you,” but adds the text “(Definitely going to chase her)” on the video a second later. Because what happens next? After a little arguing (barking), they’re both down the steps, that much deeper into the snowy yard…with a toy in her mouth nonetheless.

At this point, what else is Ivy supposed to do other than assume she won? In her eyes, it is in fact playtime now, so naturally, the playing continues. “We’ve been on a three-mile walk today already,” he tells her. “Lets go.” And the way they interpret her thoughts with on-screen text replying, “2 miles” (as if to correct her silly human) had me cracking up. You can’t fool Ivy!
Why Bernese Mountain Dogs love cold weather
Bernese Mountain Dogs originate from the Swiss Alps and they’re known for their capability to withstand the cold.
Thanks to their thick, long double coat, these dogs are just naturally adapted to cold weather. Again, they were developed in the Swiss mountains where they were originally used as farm dogs—and that’s no small feat.
It means these dogs are capable of working (and playing) in harsh, cold conditions. Their undercoat is dense and soft, which provides tons of added warmth, while their longer outer coat repels water and snow. That extra ventilation is a total game-changer.
That said—and despite their natural resilience to cold—Bernese Mountain Dogs can still unfortunately face health challenges in winter. The risks of hypothermia and frostbite are all too real and pet parents should certainly be aware of these risks during extremely low temperatures.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that while these playful pups are well-equipped for the cold, they still appreciate a cozy spot to retreat to after spending time outdoors.
Ensuring a comfortable indoor environment is pretty crucial for Bernese Mountain Dogs during the winter, and a warm, draft-free sleeping area is essential.
No matter how you look at it, though, these energetic dogs know a little extra playtime in the snow never hurt anyone. I mean…12 degrees is extremely cold, in my opinion (I’m not even sure if I’ve ever been in 12 degree weather—my San Diego blood is freezing just thinking about it) but if you have a dog as goofy and adorable as Ivy, what can you do?
The best part of the entire video, however, is the ending. Defeated, Ivy’s dad says, “You win again.” And according to the video, that leaves Ivy’s record at an impressive 451-0! Better luck tomorrow, dad.
