Looking for some fun, local activities in the upcoming weeks? Take a look at these community events:
13 Friday: The Coronado Historical Association is inviting the Coronado community to help tell and preserve a largely neglected part of the community’s heritage — the history of Coronado’s African-American community.
This rich history, which spans over 135 years, is largely absent from the historical record of Coronado. CHA is preparing for an upcoming exhibit to delve into this history.
CHA is seeking the help of community members to help us learn more about this previously under-researched part of community history. If you have photographs, documents, or stories to share (from any period, 1885-2023) please stop by CHA on Friday, October 13 for Coronado’s African American History Community Collecting Day.
13 Friday: Take a musical journey through cinema with Jaeryoung Lee’s piano performance, as part of the Library’s Autumn concert series.
“Music From the Cinema” is a celebration of the everlasting magic of movies from Italy, France, Japan and the U.S. The featured film and inspirational score will be subsequently introduced with a short clip during this multimedia event.
The performance will take place in the Winn Room at 1 p.m. Doors open 15 minutes prior to the performance and registration is not required.
14 Saturday: Gather in the Library Park to safely view the partial eclipse with a pair of NASA-approved glasses or by building your own eclipse viewer!
Lunar crafts and activities will also be available. Stop by the Library Park from 9 to 11 a.m.
17 Tuesday: San Diego author and neuroscientist Dr. Jaime Pineda discusses his new book Controlling Mental Chaos: Harnessing the Power of the Creative Mind at 7 p.m. in the Winn Room.
