Coronado centenarians shared their wisdom and key to living a long happy life at a standing room only event at the Coronado Public Library on July 21 in the Winn Room.

Community members rushed in, grabbed their coffee and sweets, and took a seat awaiting the inspiration that the centerains, a rare population of individuals who reach 100 years or more, were willing to share.

Peggy Price (100), Lois Rosania (100) Lois Land (100) and Treasure Zimmerman (103) were joined by Cynthia Mendolia, the moderator of the event, who is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach.

Ethel Keys (103) was scheduled to be on the panel as well but passed away.

“She was so spirited and was so interested in being here, all the way up until the very end she wanted to be here,” said Mendolia.

Leigh Ann Webster who is the executive director of the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching said she had great pleasure attending the event.

There was so much wisdom in the room and many stories that took the audience back to World War II, the Civil Rights Movement and the Women’s Rights Movement. It was an honor to connect with these inspiring women.”

Mendolia shared what made this event so exciting was that we all wonder what the secret to life is.

Instilling hope and courage

The room was filled with love and inspiration as the centenarians provided great perspective while instilling hope and courage.

The experiences of these woman and and the knowledge that they shared was priceless information no matter what age you are or the stage of life that you are in, said those who attended.

Mendolia shares that it starts mentally.

It’s important to have good intentions and perspective on aging.  Doing something is always better than doing nothing, she said.

“It’s a privilege to work with centenarians, a reason to listen to this whether it be video or audio is that it changes your perspective. Life is about changing your perspective” said Mendolia.

The centenarian event was recorded and is available for viewing  on the Coronado Public Library Facebook and YouTube platforms.
