5 Wednesday: The Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents Film Forum Coronado, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. The featured film on Aug. 5 is “State Secret.”
6 Thursday: Investigative journalist, bestselling author, and “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” writer and producer Annie Jacobsen will share her newest book, “Biological War: A Scenario” at the Coronado Public Library on Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. In the book, she presents a meticulously researched account of a deliberate biological attack that unleashes a global pandemic, overwhelming public health systems and threatening the collapse of modern society.
7 Friday: The Coronado Public Library’s summer concert series features “The Shoreline Pickers” band at 1 p.m. on Aug. 7.
