Former Coronado Mayor Richard Bailey led early election results for San Diego City Council’s District 2 seat on Tuesday after polls closed, with Nicole Crosby close behind.
Bailey had 38.79% of votes and Crosby had 31.32% as of June 3. The top two candidates from the June primary will move on to the November general election.
Bailey served two consecutive terms as the youngest mayor of Coronado, ending his leadership in November 2024 when he did not seek re-election. City Council member John Duncan won the mayoral race that year.
Bailey moved from Coronado to Point Loma in 2025 and started building his social media presence, reaching over 24,000 followers in just several months and focusing on nonpartisan San Diego leadership.
Bailey re-registered in February, listing no party affiliation.
“I decided to launch a campaign based on commonsense policies,” Bailey told The Coronado News in February.
