Naval Air Station North Island has ramped up security measures in the aftermath of a memo from the FBI warning of potential drone attacks from Iran on California.

The warning was originally obtained by ABC News and was reportedly sent in early February before the war on the Middle Eastern country started.

“Iran allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United State homeland, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event that the U.S. conducted strikes against Iran,” the alert said, according to ABC News.

Reporting on the purported intelligence comes two weeks into the war with Iran.

On Feb. 28, the United States and Israel led a joint attack on Iran, killing the nation’s prime minister and triggering a war that has spread through much of the Middle East.

The FBI’s national press office said they could not provide a comment. The Navy declined to comment.

The Coronado Police Department released a statement saying there are no known credible threats to the community but that “public safety officials remain vigilant and are actively monitoring developments.”

“Law enforcement will maintain a visible presence and increase patrols in areas that may attract larger gatherings or heightened concern, including schools, military installations, and religious institutions,” the statement read.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said that the city is aware of the warning, and that the San Diego Police Department is working with the government to be prepared for any emergency.

“There are no known threats to San Diego,” Gloria posted on X on March 11.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said at a news conference that he’s been aware of this information and has been working with the state operations center since the war began.

“Drone issues have always been top of mind,” Newsom said.

The City of Coronado did not respond on deadline to inquiries about the memo.

U.S. Central Command’s latest update on the war announced a mission involving B-2 stealth bombers delivering “long-range fire to not only eliminate the threat from the Iranian regime today, but also eliminate their ability to rebuild in the future.”
