Coronado-based aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was involved in the first wave of the United States’ joint attack with Israel against Iran on Saturday.
According to U.S. Central Command (CentCom), the United States and partner forces began striking targets at 1:15 a.m. ET to dismantle the Iranian regime’s security apparatus.
The Lincoln launched jet attacks while the USS Spruance, an escort ship, fired Tomahawk cruise missiles at Iranian targets, CentCom reports.
“The President ordered bold action, and our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, guardians, and coast guardsmen are answering the call,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CentCom.
This follows the carrier conducting air operations in the Arabian Sea last week.
The Lincoln departed Coronado at the end of November on an undisclosed mission with no public attention before being sent to the Middle East in late January by President Donald Trump to assist in any potential U.S. operations against Iran.
