For some of us, there’s sort of a natural progression to having pets. There comes a point when your pet begins getting older, and that’s when they start slowing down. It’s at that point that we might start considering getting a puppy or another dog.

Having a sibling in their older years will often help keep a senior dog active, and in addition to that, it can help make things easier when the time comes for them to cross the Rainbow Bridge. It helps us not feel so list, and it helps them feel as happy as possible.

Recently, one precious Golden Retriever had the honor of helping her family pick out her new puppy sibling. She couldn’t have been a better choice for that role, because she picked the best possible puppy for the job:

Ally and Beau are going to have the best time ever being together. They weren’t even really planning on actually getting a puppy when they did: they had just gone to look. Ally’s family noticed that she’s been slowing down a little recently, since she’s been getting older.

As soon as they got to the place with the puppies, however, Ally came alive. She immediately decided on one puppy… Or they decided on each other. The two of them hit it off immediately and started to play! Ally even got the zoomies for the first time in a long time!

This video is a little bit of a throwback: they actually brought Beau home in April. Since then, the two of them have bonded like crazy. They spend as much time as they can together, and it’s rare that Ally gets annoyed with her little brother… Though it’s not impossible.

The two of them live on a like together, and they love to zoom around in their nice, big yard. Sometimes, Beau tries to get in her way, though:

This is the kind of life I’m striving for. I need a nice backyard with a lake view for my puppies! Of course, Ally and Beau both love to swim, which is to be expected: they’re Golden Retrievers!

Senior dogs often love puppies

It sounds a little morbid, but a lot of people get a puppy around the time they realize that their senior dog is going to cross the Rainbow Bridge sooner than later. It can be hard to fathom your home feeling empty for even a day, and having another dog can help ease that pain.

Luckily, many senior dogs actually love puppies, and they can help dogs:

  1. Stay active.
  2. Eat more.
  3. Keep socializing.
  4. Stay out of bad habits.

Ally got everything she could ever need when they picked Beau out. It was meant to be!
