Diving is probably the thing I’m most scared of. To be honest, I can’t stand water in general, so much so that I never actually learned how to swim. However, I do love sea creatures, and turtles in particular. I have one as a pet! His name is Mr. Turtle. He’s awesome!
My comparatively tiny, tank-bound turtle doesn’t hold a candle to some of the other turtles out there, though. They’re just incredible. Sea turtles in particular are genuinely one of the most majestic creatures on the planet, and if it meant I could get close to one, I might get over my fear of the water!
One diver recently had the absolute dream scenario happen to them. When they were out on a dive in Maui, they got to meet a whole big family of sea turtles… And then someone else. This is so beautiful, I might cry:

I can’t believe @sailtrilogy had this happen. I’m just so amazed, and I am very, very jealous. Apparently, this company sails in this area pretty often, so I wonder if these turtles have seen them before! They really don’t seem scared at all! They even feel a little friendly.
Of course, seeing an entire family of sea turtles is awesome, but somehow, that’s not even the best part. Right after all of the turtles finish saying hello to the diver, the “big boss” swims on by: an absolutely massive manta ray.
That’s definitely a little intimidating, but these guys are pros. There’s a big rule when you’re out in nature, and it works in most situations: if you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you. It works for turtles and, as we can see, manta rays, too.
Manta rays are no joke
The caption states that manta rays can have wingspans of up to 20 feet, which might be a little harder to see in the water. If you think you see one coming, it’s best to move out of the way to be safe.

If you’re going to go out to sea, always be as respectful as you possibly can. Leave no trace, and touch nothing: even though some sea life may seem pet-able, you should refrain at all costs!
