The Coronado Floral Association is launching a holiday Home Front Judging contest, a new seasonal addition to its long-standing program.
Each spring, the association rallies over 150 volunteers to walk Coronado’s neighborhoods and award ribbons to homes with standout gardens and landscaping.
One branch of the program is a Fourth of July Home Front Judging contest to celebrate patriotic displays.
Now, a winter chapter is being introduced to the tradition, recognizing winter floral blooms and displays, festive decor and holiday lights. Judging is scheduled to take place in the late afternoon and at dusk, allowing both the blooms and lights to shine.
The deadline to enter your home in the contest is Dec. 7. Preliminary judging is slated for Dec. 8 and Dec. 9, with final judging on Dec. 10.
The first 50 entrants will receive a keepsake as a thank you for participating.
“Our Home Front Judging is at the very heart of what the Floral Association stands for,” said Lori P. Smith, chair of the program. “It brings our community together in celebration of beauty, creativity and pride of place. After seeing such enthusiasm for the Fourth of July judging, we are excited to honor our winter florals and festive fronts as well.”
A self-guided tour of the homes will be available through the Geotourist app, allowing visitors and residents to drive, cart, bike or walk by the decorated homes.
Entry details are available on the Coronado Floral Association’s website and through the Heylo member app.
