14 Sunday: The Coronado Ferry Landing has scheduled a free weekend concert from 2-5 p.m. on Sept. 14. The concert will feature Backstage Pass, a pop and rock band.
15 Monday: Beatriz Williams, New York Times and internationally bestselling author, is scheduled to give a talk and book signing on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Coronado Public Library. The event will feature her latest novel, “Under the Stars.”
Her newest novel is a timeless epic of mothers and daughters, set against the backdrop of a harrowing real-life disaster from the dawn of the steamship era. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served. Limited preferred seating is available with purchase of “Under the Stars” through Warwick’s bookstore.
16 Tuesday: College admissions and essay expert Ms. G. will reveal her top 5 secrets for crafting unforgettable personal statements at the Coronado Public Library on Sept. 16. Open to students and parents, the free workshop will cover what colleges really want to see.
17 Wednesday: The Republican Women of California — Coronado Crown City meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17 from 4-6 p.m. at the Coronado Historical Association. Amy Forsythe, a Marine Corps veteran who was stationed at Camp Pendleton for nearly two decades, is the featured speaker. Forsythe published a book titled, “Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines Since 9/11.” Attendance is free and light refreshments will be provided.
17 Wednesday: Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents Film Forum Coronado, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room.
Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. The film featured on Sept. 17 is “Patterns.”
