If you’re considering getting your own dog a duck, ducks can make surprisingly affectionate and entertaining pets, but they’re definitely not low-maintenance animals. While they’re social, smart, and often form strong bonds with their humans (and apparently, Goldendoodles), ducks need plenty of space to roam, access to water for bathing, and a clean, secure environment to stay healthy. They’re also messy and loud, and unlike cats or dogs, they don’t adapt as easily to indoor living. For the right person with the correct setup, especially a backyard — and maybe a Doodle companion — ducks can be quirky, delightful additions to the family.
