Babies are so special, but they’re very confusing. They’re cute, but they smell a little weird, and they cry a lot, but their giggles are way too cute. Overall, they are very confusing creatures that take some getting used to. Everything about having a baby is an adjustment.

On Thursday, May 22nd, one Golden Retriever made his confusion/happiness/worry abundantly clear the first time he met his newborn baby sister. His parents were there every step of the way, but it was still so strange:

Fernanda Miller is used to babying Benny the Golden and Benny is used to being babied. Meeting the reason why some things are going to have to change must be a little worrisome!

Benny is the baby of the family, or at least he was. He got all of their attention, and he loved it: Golden Retrievers thrive off of human interaction. They do best when they feel loved, and they can even come off a little bit clingy. They don’t mean to: they just love you!

Benny’s live with his parents was so perfect before the baby came in. They had nothing else to focus on, so he got to go for walks whenever he wanted and he could jump up on the furniture without a care in the world.

Don’t worry, though, because he and the baby are going to get along great. One thing about Golden Retrievers that everyone knows: they love kids. As she gets older and starts crawling, walking, and dropping snacks on the ground, he’ll realize that bringing in the baby was for the best.

All dogs will need some time to adjust when a new baby comes home, and you have a lot on your plate already, but you have to make it easier on them. Make sure they still get plenty of 1-on-1 time with you, and don’t change their feeding times. They’re your baby, too!

Luckily, Benny has all the support he needs. His family really cares, and he cares for the baby, too!
