A cat named Trident is getting the rewards and love he deserves after alerting his parents to a danger they didn’t realize was in their home.
Trident is now being hailed as a hero after refusing to let his parents sleep until they listened to him. If he hadn’t been so persistent, things could have turned out very differently. Here’s what happened.

On March 30, 2025, a TikTok cat mama shared the story of how their cat, Trident, may have very well saved their lives, but at the very least, prevented something disastrous from happening.
In the clip, the mom to the orange cat explained that Trident wouldn’t let them sleep one night, and he continued to scratch at their bedroom door at night. It’s something he doesn’t typically do, which struck them as odd, and prompted them to follow him to see what he was trying to say.
“He kept meowing and ran towards the steps,” the mom explained in the video, and she knew then that something was wrong because she could smell “something strange.”
As we learn in the video, there was something strange happening–the dishwasher had broken and was melting plastic. They were able to stop the dishwasher before something worse could have happened.
Now, mom says Trident is a hero, and she’s framed a photo of him with the phrase “not all heroes wear capes.”
While her husband may not agree that Trident saved their lives, the comment section gives Trident the hero-praise he very much deserves.
One person wrote, “Yes Trident! 100 percent knew and saved you. Thank you for listening.”
Another shared, “My cat alerted me when the gas nozzle was on. Hes the one who turned it on, but at least he told me.”
Someone else added, “I know someone who accidentally left their gas stove on overnight, and their cat screamed and scratched at doors to wake up the whole house.”
Other comments included, “Extra treats are in order for this smart [boy],” “Trident is the most skilled orange cat I’ve ever seen,” “He’s a catdang hero,” and “I don’t trust your husband but I trust Trident.”
We’re so proud of you, Trident. And it’s a good reminder that if our cat is acting differently and insisting on getting our attention, it won’t hurt to take a second and see what’s up.
