22 Tuesday: In his only San Diego appearance, German author Bernhard Schlink will be sharing his new title, “The Granddaughter,” at 6 p.m. in the Winn Room of the Coronado Public Library. According to Publishers Weekly, the book is an “unflinching look at the neo-Nazi movement and the compromises people make out of love.”

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served, subject to availability. Limited preferred seating is available with purchase of “The Granddaughter” through Adventures by the Book.  

24 Thursday: Emerald Keepers, a non-profit focused on environmental stewardship, is hosting “An Evening of Aloha” fundraiser on April 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Nautilus Room at 1845 Strand Way. The event will include a silent auction, food and entertainment, with the goal of raising funds to allow Emerald Keepers to continue its mission.

25 Friday: The Republican Women’s Club of Coronado, Crown City will hold their April meeting at the Coronado Historical Association Lecture Room, 1100 Orange Ave., on Friday, April  25, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Presenting will be Cole Marting, the executive director of the San Diego Young Republicans, a group of young men and women whose mission is to uphold conservative principles from North County through South Bay via monthly meetings and activities. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome.

26 Saturday: The Coronado Public Library and Coronado Art Commission invite the community to step into the director’s chair with a hands-on film class with award-winning producer and director, Tony Perri. In this collaborative class, which starts on April 26, aspiring filmmakers will work together to create a short film that will be submitted to the Coronado Island Film Festival. 

Participants will learn scripting, direction and every aspect of pre-production, production and post-production. The course is eight weeks long and participants are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible as the class will be working on a collaborative project. Those interested can register at coronado.librarycalendar.com.
