When we put costumes on animals, we typically expect the worst. Animals weren’t necessarily meant to wear clothes, so when they do, it’s a little bit awkward for them. It’s like a human trying to walk in heels for the first time!
On Tuesday, January 14th, one Sphynx cat was wearing the cutest little lamb costume. While she’s accustomed to some clothes, this ensemble was a bit much, and it created a little bit of a struggle when she wanted to get on the couch:

Fiona Apple is the cutest Sphynx cat I’ve maybe ever seen in my life, and not just because of her adorable lamb costume!
Fiona Apple is a Sphynx cat living in the Big Apple: she’s been labelled as something o an “aristocat.” She has a very impressive collection of sweaters, and her little lamb costume is just one of many, though it is one of the more cumbersome pieces in her closet.
Odds are, it’s the legs of the costume that are getting to her: she usually wears sweaters that only have front legs, but this one has them in the back, too. It’s a little more restrictive. The best part is when she just kind of folds over and gives up: the floor is fine! Don’t worry, though; her mom definitely made it up to her afterward.
Sphynx cats sometimes need clothes
Fiona Apple’s collection of sweaters is a testament to the fact that being a hairless cat is a cold thing. They do have a little bit of fuzz on them, and Sphynx cats retain some body heat, but it’s definitely easy for them to get cold.
Sweaters are a perfect way for Sphynx cats to stay warm, and they’re adorable. They’re much better than onesies, which are a little thinner. If you’re planning on taking them out when it’s cold, you should definitely plan on bringing a sweater along. If a Sphynx is cold, you’ll notice:
- Shivering
- Cowering
- Lethargy
- Difficulty moving around a lot
To get started, sweaters with two front legs and open backs are perfectly fine. You should also avoid sweaters with crazy necks at first (Fiona, for example, had learned to love a good turtleneck) and sweaters that are too small or too large. If they don’t fit well, they won’t want to wear them!
Luckily for Fiona Apple the cat, she’s a pro at sweaters. She looks great in them, too!
