The news coming out of California over the past week has been nothing short of horrifying. As the wildfires in the Los Angeles area continue to rage on, people continue to lose their homes and even their loved ones to the blaze, including their beloved pets. Along with the wild animals who have been displaced from their homes, there are pets who have gotten lost along the way, spooked by the fires and leaving their humans fearing the worst.
Amid all of the despair, though, this story is a bright spot with a very happy ending. One dad was able to reunite with his rescue dog amid all of the chaos, but I must warn you: Seeing the moment they were back together is a bit of a tearjerker, so you might want to have some tissues ready before clicking play!

The Daily Mail‘s official TikTok account shared this footage of Los Angeles resident Casey Colvin, who had spent five days looking for his pup, Oreo.
“Oreo was trapped in their blazing LA home, but locals helped to track the dog. We’re so relieved they’re reunited,” reads the video.
Here, Casey can be seen crouching down by the gate of an LA home. Then, Oreo comes running to him, and he picks her up, spinning her around. “You’re alive! You’re alive!” he can be heard saying. What an emotional moment!
Oreo’s valiant return
According to NBC Los Angeles, Casey was at work when he got the notice to evacuate from his home in Pacific Palisades and spent five hours in traffic in his attempt to get home and get his dogs, who he said he’d rescued “off the street.”
Firefighters were able to get one of his dogs, but Oreo was still missing. On the scene, Casey met NBC News Correspondent Liz Kreutz, who posted about Oreo on social media as Casey put up fliers about the missing dog.
After Oreo was spotted by people in the community, a dog tracker helped lead Casey to where the pup had been sleeping in a pile of debris and rubble where their neighbor’s house once stood. Casey lost his home in the fires, but fortunately, he and his dogs are safe and sound.
Liz Kreutz also shared the happy news on Instagram herself, writing, “Casey called me right after my last post and told me there were eyes on Oreo. We rushed to his street where Oreo was hiding in his neighbor’s home. The moment he saw Casey he came running. An incredible moment and bright spot in such a devastating time.”
It’s good to see Casey and Oreo together again. I can’t imagine how relieved he must be!
