SAN DIEGO – Capt. Edison Rush was relieved by Cmdr. Nellie Wang as commanding officer of the USS Montgomery during a change-of-command ceremony held at Naval Base San Diego on Dec. 12.
During Rush’s time in command, Montgomery completed multiple phase certifications, hosted over 15,000 visitors during San Diego Fleet Week 2022 and Portland Rose Festival 2024 and contributed to the joint mission to recover the Orion space capsule as part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Artemis mission.
“Capt. Rush, thank you for your exceptional mentorship, leadership and dedicated service to the LCS community,” said Wang. “Leadership is more than a position, it is a calling, and you have exemplified that through your vision, decisive nature, and ability to inspire trust and motivate crews, even in the face of the most challenging circumstances.”
During the ceremony, Rush was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his superior accomplishments. He will be reporting to Afloat Training Group Pacific for his next tour of duty.
“To the mighty Montgomery crew past and present, thank you. You have endured hardship that many others would not understand,” said Rush. “Thank you for your relentless spirit and fighting the good fight with me these past two years.”
Montgomery is homeported in San Diego as a part of Littoral Combat Ship Squadron 1.
