Eight San Diego-based professional sports teams have come together to form the San Diego Pro Sports Military Alliance, an online outlet offering discounted tickets to military personnel, veterans and their families.

The new promotion kicked off with a press conference Oct. 3 aboard the USS Midway.

Spanning a multitude of sports and leagues with teams in the area, the partnership includes the San Diego Seals (of the Professional Box Lacrosse League), the San Diego Clippers (NBA G-League), the San Diego Gulls (hockey farm team for the Anaheim Ducks), the Legion (a professional rugby union team), the Sharks (professional basketball team), the Sockers (indoor soccer team), the Strike Force (indoor football league) and the San Diego Mojo of the Pro Volleyball Federation.

Paul Speaker, chief executive officer with the Seals and former CEO of the World Surf League, said the goal is to provide one place for military families to go and easily access discounted or free tickets, starting at 20%.

“It was originally an idea that I took to Bob Rief at San Diego Sport Innovators earlier this year as an opportunity for our teams to all come together and work together to support the men and women in the military community here in San Diego,” he said.

The discounts will be available to currently enlisted, retired, active-duty, and military veterans, according to Speaker.

Speaker said San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria has supported the alliance.

“He was kind enough to join us on the USS Midway for our introductory press conference on October 3rd and he also brought with him a proclamation declaring Oct. 3 as San Diego Pro Sports Military Alliance Day in San Diego so that too was very cool,” Speaker said.

The discounts, starting at 20%, will be offered through SDMilitaryTix.com. Speaker said the site is in its final development stages. Each team will have their own ticketing and vetting programs to verify military affiliation.

“There’s going to be a calendar where every team’s games will be listed with a link and that link will take you to that team’s landing page where there will be different offers that you can take advantage of,” Speaker said,

“Right now, until the site is complete, you can still go on there and enter your name, email and phone number and you’ll receive a notification when the site is up and fully functional. Once it is, it will be very easy to navigate through.”
