The City of Coronado is set to begin its annual traffic count program on Tuesday, Sept. 4, in an effort to gather data on traffic volumes and speeds across the city.

The city said it collects volume data at more or less the same locations over a period of years in order to use it for various reasons, including general resident inquiries or concerns, requests for speed humps or traffic calming, and more. This year, the city said it will also be collecting traffic speed data.

A city contractor, National Data & Surveying Services, will be deploying video traffic counters and tube counters at three different locations across the city for three consecutive weeks. The counters will be set up and taken down within three to less days each, and data collection should be completed by the end of September.

To contact the City’s Public Services and Engineering staff, residents may call 619- 522-7380.
