On Oct. 9, the Coronado Junior Woman’s Club will once again transform the island into a culinary playground with the return of A Taste of Coronado.

The annual event, now in its 15th year, is expected to draw over 800 food fans for an evening of indulgence and community spirit, all in the name of charity.

Attendees have come from as far as Missouri and Michigan for the event, said Michelle Munns, the chair of A Taste of Coronado.

“Sometimes it overlaps with people’s trips and other times people are coordinating their trips to be a part of it (A Taste of Coronado) because they’ve fallen in love with the event so much,” Munns said.

Stretching from the Coronado Ferry Landing to Rotary Park, A Taste of Coronado is a self-guided tour where attendees can sample food and drink from a mix of Coronado’s eateries and retail booths.

With four check-in spots — the fountain at the Hotel del Coronado, Clayton’s Bakery & Bistro, Rotary Park and the Ferry Landing — Munns said the event is “very free-flowing.”

“You can start wherever you want and will have a tasting card that has every restaurant that’s participating listed,” Munns said, “and the trolleys run [throughout the] night for free.”

Restaurants that will have booths include but are not limited to Clayton’s Coffee Shop, Moo Time Creamery, Little Frenchie, Miguel’s Cocina, Brigantine Seafood & Oyster Bar and Shore Duty.

At the heart of this year’s event is the San Diego Rescue Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to aiding the area’s homeless population. All proceeds will be directed to the Rescue Mission.

For the second consecutive year, the Hotel del Coronado has stepped up as the event’s presenting sponsor, contributing $8,000 to help the event’s production and this year’s beneficiary.

Other sponsors include McKay and Associates and Hughes & Pizzuto, APC.

“We’re incredibly proud to showcase Coronado’s vibrant culinary scene while making a significant impact on the lives of those served by the San Diego Rescue Mission,” Munns said in a press release.

The event will be held from 5-9 p.m. General admission and VIP tickets can be purchased at https://www.atasteofcoronado.com.
