Cats such as Maine Coons and Siberians have outgoing personalities. Many enjoy going on adventures in the car or out on a leash. Their naturally inquisitive natures can also make them a bit more intrigued about water.
So when this fluffy kitten exhibited signs of curiosity, his parents helped him explore. Now, he’s a water-loving feline who knows how to swim like a graceful swan.

This beautiful kitty knows how to beat the summer heat! Frosty’s (@benjaminfrost_) parents show us that when she first showed signs of interest in the water from the faucet, they decided to continue developing his interest. To get him close to the cut tub, his dad held a pole with a toy at the end to encourage him to play. Once he felt comfortable on the edge, Mom gently encouraged him to go in the water, and Dad continued to dangle his toy and hold his attention. They also ensured he had plenty of love and encouragement to feel safe and protected. Now, this gorgeous Siberian cat is such a strong swimmer he can join them for a dip in the pool.

Tips for introducing cats to water
Experts recommend making introductions through slow, positive experiences like these patient parents did. Ideally, it’s best to get cats familiar with water from a young age. It’s also recommended that they get comfortable in spaces like sinks and tubs to play with their toys without any water present. Then, a small amount of water can be added, ensuring it doesn’t make them anxious. Even if your cat isn’t a natural-born swimmer, you may need to bathe them on occasion. So, having them comfortable in these situations can be the difference between a peaceful and chaotic experience.
