Cats have a reputation for being cold-blooded killers. Talk to any anti-cat individual and they’ll remind you that your cat would eat you if you died, and they wouldn’t think twice about it.

However, cats can also be some of the friendliest animals on the planet. There are tons of cats out there who legitimately would never hurt a fly – they might even try to befriend it! On Monday, April 8th, one Siberian cat went viral for his hilarious attempt at making friends:

Nimbus the Siberian is so precious. Maybe he wanted a friend, maybe he’s an evil mastermind. Either way, it’s fun to watch!

Nimbus’s name really fits him: he looks like a fluffy cloud, albeit a slightly dusty one. His TikTok account has shown that Nimbus is just a friendly guy: he loves attention, and any way he can get it works for him. He’s a Siberian cat, and they’re known for being fluffy, friendly, and having so much energy it’s kind of concerning.

Like all cats, Nimbus is fascinated by bugs. They’re something new to play with, and bugs tend to be one of the biggest triggers for their predatory instincts, especially if they move quickly or fly. All kitties, whether they’ve ever been outside or not, will have some sort of predatory instincts.

Chirping is a hunting tactic in cats

Nimbus is staring up at the fly and chirping at it. While everyone is saying that the chirping is just him trying to get the fly to come down so they can be friends, it’s a little darker than that. He’s chirping at it to try to mimic the sound of a bird, which would normally attract other small birds.

They have different chirps, too, and have been known to pull them out at different times depending on what they’re hearing. Even cats on leashes who have never hunted anything in their lives have been caught doing it, but outdoor cats are total pros! Typically, chirping/squeaking animals are the most common cat prey, so those are the kinds of noises they make. Of course, Nimbus probably doesn’t know that the sound of a bird may scare off his flying friend!

If he were to catch it, there’s a good chance he’d eat it, but there’s also a chance he’d just play with it before accidentally smushing it beneath his paw. If he’s this focused on the fly, something tells me this is not the first he’s ever hunted!
