Pet parents already know that one of the sweetest parts of having a dog in the family is how excited they get to see you when you get home. It doesn’t matter how long you were gone, they’re always greeting you like it’s been months — they really know how to make their people feel loved. But apparently, this behavior extends to other species, too… even the ones who you wouldn’t necessary expect to act this way towards their humans.
Case in point: the rooster in this TikTok video. By the way he runs to greet his mom, you would think that he’s part dog. But nope, he’s just a bird who really, really loves his mama — that much is obvious by the enthusiasm he displays when he welcomes her home.

On Tuesday, April 16, @lena_virginia shared this sweet footage on TikTok, which she explained in the caption featured her sweet rooster, whose name is Yankee.
At first, Yankee is just waddling around the yard as roosters do, but as soon as he realizes that his mama is home from work, he takes off running to get to her as quickly as possible. And once he makes it over to her in the driveway, he’s running all around, like he’s got the rooster version of the zoomies.
And speaking of the zoomies, he’s definitely not the only one in his mom’s welcoming committee. She’s also greeted by two very excited dogs who are pumped to see her, too. She must feel so loved!
“He has bonded with me and he is such a sweet roo,” she wrote in her caption. “I have 14 hens and he could care less about being around them if I’m outside too. He will follow me everywhere and sit on my lap.”
That’s too precious.
Do roosters get attached to their humans?
As it turns out, roosters and hens can actually be plenty affectionate toward their people, just like more typical pets like dogs and cats are. They have so much love to give!
Chickens are actually very social animals who enjoy spending time with other chickens, and with humans. They can form bonds and attachments to the people who care for them, though we might be a different species. They can tell when you’re a safe person who provides them with love and food, and they will show you that love right back.
If you spend time talking (and even singing) to them, they’ll learn your voice, and get excited when they hear it… just like Yankee did when he heard his mom calling out to him when she got home from work. Raising backyard chickens can be hard work, but the love you get is so worth it.
This rooster mama is very lucky to have Yankee in her fam, and it looks like the feeling is most certainly mutual.
