We all have our little rituals with our pets that might not make any sense to outsiders (or might even look ridiculous) but have become part of our daily routines. Sometimes, it’s the silly nicknames we end up giving them or dances we do that get them excited, and sometimes, it’s the songs we sing to them. Hey, being alone in a house with a dog who can’t talk back to you can get lonely, so singing is obviously the only option… even better if you make up your own words.
And though the puppy in this TikTok video is still new to her family, she immediately took to the song that her new human made up when dinner is served. This is seriously so cute, you just have to see it for yourself.
@meganroserutThis little creature 🧡 Agatha is a Border Collie, Bernese Mountain Dog, Australian Shepherd and Great Pyranese mix! They say she’ll only be 80 lbs…. But I have a feeling we have a 100 pounder on our hands! #puppiesoftiktok #puppytiktok #bernesemountaindog #bernesemountaindogpuppy #vancouverisland
As we can see in this video that @meganroserut posted on Sunday, March 3, the friendship between Agatha and her mom is a special one from the start, because this sweet dog is who she adopted after losing her “soul dog” after 15 years together.
There’s no way she can do anything but smile with this precious puppy around. As she carries her food bowl over to the spot where she’ll be eating, she sings a song about dinner to the tune of “Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?”
Agatha is totally into it, jumping into the air the whole way through the kitchen, and sits so nicely and patiently waiting for the bowl to be put down, tail wagging.
“Agatha is a Border Collie, Bernese Mountain Dog, Australian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees mix,” she wrote in the caption. “They say she’ll only be 80 lbs… but I have a feeling we have a 100 pounder on our hands!”
Even if they do, who cares? More adorable dog to love!
How to teach a pup to sit
If you’re thinking about how nicely Agatha was sitting as she waited for her dinner, don’t worry — you can totally teach your dog to do the same thing.
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), it’s pretty easy to do, especially with treats as a “lure.” First, hold a treat near their nose, and slowly drag it through the air to their back end. They’ll follow it with their eyes and body and end up in the sitting position, at which point you can give them their reward.
The next step is to walk away and call them over, and when they come, repeat with the treat. Do this until they start sitting without you moving the treat every time, and then, use an empty hand as the lure, giving them the treat you hid in your other hand.
After you’ve practiced that, add in the command “sit” and repeat. Eventually, hearing the word “sit” will signal them to sit.
Now, all you have to do is come up with an adorable dinner song…
