Raising a puppy is certainly not for the weak, but what gets us through the tougher, more stressful moments (like potty training and all those chewed up household items you keep finding) are the adorable ones. You get to see this creature discover so many things about the world and themselves that are brand new to them. And if you’ve noticed that your puppy is a bit quiet at first, don’t worry. That won’t last long, just until they find their voice. When they figure out the power they have to bark and howl, they will definitely let you know!

One Husky puppy on TikTok is proudly showing off her voice now that she’s found it, and it’s easy to see why she wants the world to hear her — it’s adorable! Unfortunately enough for her mom, she happened to find that voice at 6 a.m. You’ve gotta hear it for yourself!

In this video that @huskyjackson shared on Thursday, February 22, we can see what happened when her Husky puppy decided to start making noise for what she wants — and in this case, apparently, it’s asking her family to play with her, even if it happens to be the crack of dawn!

After yowling for the older Husky in the fam to play with her, the husky’s mom says, “Leave Jackson alone. He’s sleeping!”

But that’s not a good enough reason for this little lady, whose name is Josie. She’s determined to play, and something tells me she’s not going to give up on that easily! She’s got that new puppy energy — it’s hard to match that, no matter what time of day it happens to be.

“She’s still learning how to Husky,” Josie’s mom joked in the caption of the video.

Why do Huskies howl?

Not all dog breeds are big on howling the way that Josie is learning to — most dogs have the ability, but it’s not always their preferred method of communication.

Huskies do howl a lot, and there’s a reason for that. They’re more closely related to wolves (something that’s easy to understand just by looking at how similar they are). And while their howls can sometimes sound sad,  most of the time, they’re not actually feeling sad; they’re just trying to communicate the way Josie did here.

Other times, dogs including Huskies will “sing along” when they hear noises similar to a howl — now that is entertaining if you’re lucky enough to witness it!

Huskies typically don’t truly howl until they’re around 6-7 months old, and until then, you can expect to hear their practice howls like Josie was doing. Soon enough, she’ll be yodeling with the best of them!
