23 Tuesday: The Storytelling Institute, a free six-week course presented by the Storytellers of San Diego, will return to the Coronado Public Library on Jan. 23.
The Storytelling Institute is open to everyone who would like to hone their skills in this ancient art form. The Institute culminates in an optional storytelling slot for each participant at the San Diego Storytelling Festival at the Coronado Public Library on March 16.
Each session is on a Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Registration is requested for the Jan. 23 introductory session. All registered participants will receive a copy of the book “How to Tell a Story: The Essential Guide to Memorable Storytelling from The Moth.” All other sessions, every week until March 5, are walk-in and no registration is required.
24 Wednesday: The Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Friends of Coronado Public Library and Warwick’s bookstore, will host Nita Prose for an intimate luncheon with the author as well as a signing of her new book, “The Mystery Guest: A Maid Novel,” on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 11 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room.
The $40 ticket includes lunch and a hardcover copy of the book. Proceeds support free programs at the library such as lectures, workshops, classes, concerts and children’s programs.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and a chance to have the author sign books. To purchase tickets and reserve seats, visit the library’s events calendar at cplevents.org and click on the program title. Seating is limited to 50 people and there will not be a waitlist.
26 Friday: The Coronado Roundtable meeting will take place in the Winn Room of the Coronado Public Library at 10 a.m.
26 Friday: Discover a new favorite spice or herb with Coronado Public Library. Each month, the library invites community members to explore different spices used in dishes around the world.
Registrants will pick up the monthly spice/herb selection at the library, cook with it, and join other food enthusiasts to discuss what they made and their thoughts about the spice. For January, participants will explore cooking with Chinese Five Spice powder blend.
The meeting will be held on Zoom on Friday, Jan. 26 at 2:30 p.m. The Zoom link will be emailed the day before the meeting.
