Construction on the new $26 million Parker Pump Station, located at Eighth Street and Coronado Avenue is continuing, city officials say.
The infrastructure is responsible for collecting stormwater and sanitary sewer flows.
Once completed, the new pump station will improve operational efficiency and prevent flooding in homes, and pollution to the ocean. An additional 6,000 square feet of green space will also be added for the neighborhood to enjoy.
A city contractor recently poured the floor slab of the new stormwater wet well and partially backfilled the large excavation to the top of the floor slab.
Preparations are now taking place to install the wall forms of the structure with an anticipated concrete pour date in January.
Broke ground in January
The city broke ground at the project site on Jan. 6, and it is the largest of 20 pump stations citywide, officials say.
Though Congressman Scott Peters from California’s 52nd Congressional District, which includes Coronado, the city received $3 million in federal funds to help pay for the @26 million project.
The existing Parker Pump Station was constructed in 1983 and services both storm water and wastewater flows, officials said.
