On Thursday, October 19, a dog mom shared a video of one of her pups that is leaving viewers flabbergasted. In the clip, she sits on the couch with her 3-month-old Irish Wolfhound puppy named Merlin before it cuts to a new clip of the two 3 months later.
This footage, shared on TikTok user @mygentlegiants, went viral because of Merlin’s nearly inconceivable size difference in just a few months. However big you’re expecting this dog to be at 6 months old, think bigger!

Oh my goodness, this dog is enormous! At 3 months old, the puppy already looked to be the size of a full grown dog. Fast-forward three more months, and Merlin is enormous and practically double the size of his human. We can hardly believe how quickly this Irish Wolfhound grew!

If it wasn’t clear already, Irish Wolfhounds are truly colossal dogs. These gentle giants can reach heights of at least 32 inches at the shoulder, with males often weighing between 140 to 180 pounds. Their stature is commanding, characterized by a well-proportioned, muscular build, and a long, elegant neck. Irish Wolfhounds exude an imposing yet dignified presence that’s as captivating as it is impressive!
In a major contrast to their size, Irish Wolfhounds are known for their gentle and affable temperament. These giant dogs possess a calm and friendly nature, earning them the moniker “gentle giants.” They are generally well-mannered, good-natured, and particularly fond of children and other animals, making them wonderful companions for families and individuals alike!
People in the comments are astounded by Merlin’s impressive size at a mere 6 months old. “The fact he looked like a puppy at 3 months but just like a HUGE puppy is insane,” said TikTok user @wakingupinsurgery.
There’s no denying Merlin’s size is staggering, but it’s clear this pup is truly a sweetheart—his attempt at being a lap dog in the second clip is proof!
