On Saturday, October 1, a Finnish farmer shared a video of two of the animals on her farm and the budding friendship that is already brewing between them. Aatu, a Shetland pony, and Sipuli, a cow calf, forge a connection through their mutual temporary isolation from their herds.

The post was shared to TikTok user @esk_tuulispaa‘s account and is the kind of feel-good content we all need. In fact, this will make your heart soar!

the cutest friendship 🥰 nowadays both Aatu and Sipuli live with their own kind, but for a moment they shared a friendship beyond species. #tuulispää #animalsanctuary #sanctuarylife #adoptdontshop #animalrescue #rescueanimals #animalrights #pony #poniesoftiktok #cow #cowsoftiktok #poni #eläinsuojelu #eläinsuojeluyhdistys #animalprotection #nonprofit #babyanimals

Oh my goodness, these animals are unbelievably sweet! Aatu is in the process of recovering from leg surgery while Sipuli is too small to join the rest of the cattle herd. Since they were feeling a bit lonely, the farmers introduced them to each other, and after a brief hesitation, the two became instant best friends. We love this for them!

Aatu and Sipuli are a perfect match. Horses and cows are inherently social animals that exhibit a strong herd mentality. In the wild, they form intricate social hierarchies and communicate non-verbally, fostering group unity and security. This social nature is a fundamental aspect of their behavior and contributes to their adaptability and survival in the wild, as well as in domestic settings.

In fact, loneliness in social animals like cows and horses can have detrimental effects on their well-being. Without companionship and the support of a herd, these animals may experience increased stress, anxiety, and even depression. In domestic settings, it can also impact their productivity and behavior.

This is why it was so important for Aatu and Sipuli to become friends while they are isolated from their herds. It’s essential to ensure that these animals have the opportunity to interact and form social bonds to promote their mental and emotional welfare!
