Here are a list of events going on around town from Sept. 8 through the rest of the month.
8 Friday — Come to the Coronado Public Library at 1 p.m. for the Autumn Concert Series in the Winn Room. This performance will feature pianist Sachiko Reiners, who began her piano career at the age of four. She has won several piano competitions and graduated in the top of her class from TOHO Music Conservatory. She made her international debut in Victoria BC, Canada and held solo recitals in Japan, the United States, and Canada. She made her solo CD album ‘ Place In My Heart’ in 2019.
9 Saturday – The City of Coronado is hosting a Households Hazardous Waste Collection from 9 am. to 2 p.m. at the Public Services Facility, 101 B. Ave. It is available only for Coronado residents.
The purpose of the HHW program is to provide safe and convenient disposal of items that should not be mixed with the regular trash.
Household products containing toxic chemicals become hazardous waste when you decide to dispose of them. Never throw hazardous products in the trash, as the toxic chemicals may harm the environment and sanitation workers, and start fires in trash trucks, city officials say. And never pour hazardous products into a sink or storm drain.
14 Thursday – The Library is hosting open chess play on the second Thursday of every month between 3 and 5 p.m. in the Winn Room. Enjoy playing chess with others, or learn to play or improve your game with help from facilitator and local chess coach Chuck McClung.
Chess boards and pieces provided. Open to all adults age 18 and older. McClung is a lifelong chess enthusiast and played in his first chess tournament over 40 years ago. He works as a consultant for the Mountain Lake Chess Camp, the oldest chess-teaching company in San Diego. Chuck is also the current Category C World Champion on the website chessworld.net.
15 Friday – A meeting of the Republican Women’s Club, Coronado Crown City will be held at the Coronado Historical Association Lecture Room, 1100 Orange Ave., at 9:30 a.m. A social will commence at 9:15 a.m. All Republican women are welcome to attend. Men are also welcome and encouraged to become associate members. In addition, Independent and undecided voters are welcome.’
