Coronado High competed at the Cummings/Latham Invitational at Rohr Park hosted by Otay Ranch High School on Sept. 8.
The girls finished in finished in eighth place among the larger schools with sophomore Morgan Maske finishing with a time of 17.42 over the 2.5-mile varsity girls race.
That mark ranked her third among the D-4 girls.
The other top finishers for the Islanders were were Carly DeVore (6th at 18:33), Maesan Everitt (10th at 19:24), Natalia Amkie (11th at 19:35), and Nadia Roos (13th at 19:39) for a total of 43 points.
The team’s “pusher” was Stefanie Romero, who came in 24th place.
For the boys, the top finisher for the Islanders in the varsity 5000-meter heats was Rafael Roos at 18:22, Nathan Ayan in close pursuit at 18:49, and Xavier Marsh and Jack Shumaker following, said Coach George Green.
Before starting the league cluster meets, Coronado’s final invitational will be the Mt. Carmel Invitational on Sept. 16 at Morley Field where the 3-mile CIF championship course will be used.
With over 100 schools attending, it’s the largest meet in San Diego and will give the Islanders more insight into where they stand in their division, Green said.
