Coronado High School’s cross country teams placed fifth at the Wolf Pack Invitational on Aug. 25 in grade-only races behind El Capitan, Point Loma, Steele Canyon, and Santana, said Islanders Coach George Green.
Green noted that all of the schools that finished ahead of Coronado were Division 2 and Division 3 schools, with Coronado being the top Division 4 team at the meet.
Letcher one of top girls runners
Gwynne Letcher placed fourth in the hilly girls’ 1.5-mile freshman race with a time of 10:21, while Carly DeVore placed sixth with a time of 10:34. Meanwhile, Maesan Everitt placed 12th with a time of 11:10.

The other two overall scorers came from the sophomore and junior races.
Morgan Maske placed 14th in the sophomore race at 10:45, and Jaya Jost
clocked a 10:56 for sixth place in the junior race.

Roos top runner in boys races

In the boys’ races, the team’s top runner was Rafael Roos, who placed 24th in the
competitive 2.1-mile senior boys race with a time of 11:04.

Green said other noteworthy performances included runs by Nathan Ayan, who placed seventh in the 2.1-mile sophomore race with a time of 11:37; Xavier Marsh with 9:59 in the 1.5-mile freshman race; and Jack Letcher with 12:03 in the 2.1-mile junior race.

The team’s next meet will be the Ravens Invitational at Canyon Crest High School on Sept. 2
